Dallas Mayor Comes Out in Support of Legalized Casino Game Venues
December 6th, 2007
Dallas Mayor Laura Miller came out last week in support of the legalization of casino game sites in the state of Texas.
Mayor Miller suggested several appropriate sites for casino game businesses, should gambling be legalized by the legislature. She proposed the Metroplex as a prime location. Mayor Miller also suggested that the casino game industry could be comfortably located in Fort Worths historic Stockyards or Cultural District, or in any of several underused sports gaming venues in her city such as the Reunion Arena.
“There’s the possibility of knocking down Reunion Arena and building something else,” said Meranda Carter Cohn, a spokeswoman for the mayor. “Mayor Miller would be open to the possibility of bringing something like a casino in.
Cohn emphasized that all the talk of where was just conjecture unless casino game gambling is legalized in Texas. “It seems that nearly every year, the Legislature considers whether to make gambling legal,” she said. “It’s getting closer and closer [to the 2007 session], and it might get passed. It all depends on Austin.”
Many Texan leaders are feeling pressure to legalize gambling, now that the state is surrounded by states that do permit the practice.
